10 July 2008, China/London/Singapore – Committed to strengthening its international sales force and enhancing its ability to serve corporate and financial institution clients, Standard Chartered has made key hires in China to add further thrust to its plans for growth in the region.

Duan Yang has joined the Bank as Managing Director, Fixed Income Sales, overseeing a newly assembled team that will continue to build out sales capabilities responding to client demands while driving service excellence in the region. Duan’s immediate tasks will include building and strengthening the Bank’s client coverage.

Formerly from Bear Stearns where he was Head of Derivative Sales, Duan comes to Standard Chartered with a strong performance track record. He will be based in Hong Kong and will report to Jenny Mak and John Thang, the Co-Heads of Fixed Income Sales North East Asia.

On joining Standard Chartered Bank, Duan shared, “Standard Chartered’s Financial Markets business has impressed me with its well-defined strategy and its relentless focus to being the right partner for its clients. Since joining, I’ve been particularly attracted to the culture displayed within the Bank where there is enormous emphasis in fully understanding clients, their business and their needs. I am delighted to be joining Standard Chartered at a time when the opportunity to further develop the Fixed Income sales business across such dynamic markets is so great.”

Reporting to Duan are Liu Xi and Zhang Hao:

Liu Xi has joined the Bank as Managing Director, Fixed Income Sales. Xi has over 20 years Fixed Income sales experience where he spent the last 14 years with BNP Paribas and was instrumental in building up the sales platform for China Institutional Sales there. Xi has a very strong relationship with Chinese institutional clients including Central Bank, commercial banks and insurance companies. He will be based in Hong Kong.

Zhang Hao has joined the Bank as Managing Director, Fixed Income Sales. He joins the Bank from Bear Stearns where he covered China derivative sales activities with extensive customer coverage including major banks and big state owned enterprises. Hao will be based in Hong Kong.

Commenting on these new hires, David Carr, Global Head, Fixed Income Sales said, “The appointments are testament to our focus in achieving greater scale and clearly underlines our obsession in driving our client-centric strategy. We have seen tremendous growth in China last year and as part of our sales focus are committed to directing our energies to customers in the region.
